Carl’s Jr. Commercial

Fried Sexuality It is funny how you can get the attention of a man’s sexual desires through a commercial. You can’t blame a man for his behavior. It’s in our nature to be who we are as men. Specifically, the kind of men that can be tricked by a mere image of a woman, in a bikini, eating a cheese burger. The advertisements in today’s world have been altered to use women as bait to reel in men and buy the product without any hesitation. If I told you that if you go to Carl’s Jr. and purchase a cheeseburger and a gorgeous model comes with the burger, would you buy it?I sure would†¦if only it were true. Carl’s Jr. is known for having its famous juicy, charbroiled, seven hundred calorie burgers. Anytime they want to promote a new burger, they use a model dressed revealingly to present the burger. They have the model eat very slowly and take big bites out of the burger to show its ingredients and condiments. At the end of the commercial there is a white background and the burger falls from the sky and lands on the white ground. End of commercial. We have sort of gotten the feeling that these advertisements tend to be repetitive and very similar.It has come to my attention that these commercials were pitched by men or a man. Only a man could use a woman as his tool and present her in front of an audience of millions to show the new way of how to unveil a new product. I have seen so many Carl’s Jr. commercials to the point where I feel like they want me to buy the model, rather than the burger. Nonetheless, having the model will not solve my hunger problem but having her for the sexual desire aspect will suffice. What appealed to me was the lack of importance of the burger in the beginning of the commercial.The commercial starts with the beautiful model at the beach. She is lying on the beach on a towel. The sun is so bright it makes her skin glow and come to life. A breeze flows through the air and has her hair dan cing with the wind. Her face so delicate and lovely. As she eats the burger, sauce drips on to her skin. As if the men weren’t aroused already, she wipes the sauce with her finger and licks it off. The newest burger from Carl’s Jr. is the Memphis BBQ Pulled Pork burger. The commercial, dare I say it, is hot.You find yourself at an annual cook-off in Memphis, Tennessee and come across stands selling food, beer, etc. This one particular stand has these two gorgeous girls flipping patties and teasing each other. They give each other menacing looks. You can feel the sexual tension rising. The camera is behind the girls and you can clearly see that they are wearing, what appeared to be, shorts. These shorts allow you to see the girls’ rear ends hanging. The heat was so unstable you can see sweat sliding down their tan, perfect bodies like children sliding down a tube at a waterpark.Remember when I said that these commercials tend to be repetitive? Well history repeat s itself because also in this commercial, one of the girls has a drop of sauce land on one of her breasts. She immediately wipes it with her finger and licks it like it was a lollipop. The table across from the girls has two men standing there, staring at them with their mouths so wide open that their jaws are touching the floor. Meanwhile, the girls have put together their burgers and are feeding each other.The men over at the other table took out their cell phones and started to take pictures, like they were teenagers recording a fight in high school. I am going out on a limb here by saying that this and many other commercials by Carl’s Jr. received generally more negative reviews than positive. Those negative reviews came from concerned and angry mothers. One mother had this to say about one of Carl’s Jr. ’s commercials: â€Å"This is absolutely the most disgusting commercial Carl's Jr has came up with so far. The women looks like she's actually getting sexu ally aroused from eating a hamburger for God sake!Not to mention she even looks as if she's fingering herself† (http://www. complaintsboard. com). Now this post received many negative comments from men and good comments from mothers. The mother goes on to say: â€Å"The FCC need's to ban this filthy commercial right off the air. There are innocent children that are being subjected to that appalling, demoralizing smut† (http://www. complaintsboard. com). Several comments to this post were very crucial and degrading. One comment said the following about the concerned mother: â€Å"Oh shut the hell up and quit your bitching.You are just pissed because she is one of the most gorgeous females walking the earth and you are probably just some fat chick who is pissed because you feel even more guilty when you go and eat at Carl's Jr every other day because you have to look at yourself in the mirror and wish you looked like her. If it bothers you that much then find a new burge r joint to fill your mouth with to gain more weight† (http://www. complaintsboard. com). I wouldn’t call that comment very â€Å"heartwarming† but what is heartwarming is the flow of endless money into your bank account after that commercial is aired in front of billions watching worldwide.I asked my mother if she remembers the burger Carl’s Jr. was advertising in the Memphis BBQ cook-off and she told me: â€Å"What? They were selling burgers? I thought they were selling prostitutes! † Well that’s my mother for you. Just another confused and possibly concerned parent. I asked my father the same question and he told me: â€Å"I got to go get that burger! † Like father, like son. Carl’s Jr. has created this new way of advertising for the same reason we have jobs. UAE is one of the prospering economies of the world whose per capital income is in par with some of the most developed nations of Europe. This is attributable to the oil revenues and the booming real estate market. This boom created a base for competition in the country market from different sectors like industrial sector especially mentioned the â€Å"Cement Industry†. Cement industry is fast growing due to the growing real estate market in the country and especially in Dubai and Abu Dhabi. At present, there are nine cement factories in United Arab Emirates and they produce 8. 5 million tons of cement every year. The emirate of Ras Al Khamah is the largest cement producer in United Arab Emirates. In our report, we studied the cement industry in UAE and analyzed them financially for the years from 2008 to 2010. Assuming that three main cement producers in the Emirate of Ras Al Khaimah will represent the whole cement market as they are the biggest cement producers according to the economic publications and their level of productions. The analysis included Union Cement Company (UCC), Gulf Cement Company (GCC) and Ras Al Khaima Cement Company (RAKCC). The choice of the companies based on the similarity of their core business and productions activities beside the fact that they all listed in Abu Dhabi Securities Exchange market (ADX) giving us the opportunity for fair comparison. Financial analysis for the companies based on their published annual financial reports in ADX has been conducted to check their financial performance for the years from 2008 to 2010. The analysis take in consideration the corporate governance mechanism conducted in each company to check the effectiveness of the corporate governance on their financial performance in the market. Assuming the average of the three companies will represent the market, an overall ranking of the best company in the market is conducted based on financial analysis ratios and their corporate governance mechanism implemnted.

Whats more, four days ago my back hurt because school started and i have been sitting for long hours and been looking at a computer screen Having limited human contact will cause us to have even less trust in others, and in turn, we will be even less friendly and even more stand-offish. Thirdly, for people who do their works by using the internet has also bad sides to the society. We are getting lazy and not going outside for a walk. Our movement gets limited only in our home. Also, it is making the person isolated from the society outside which the he or she is might become lonely just communicating with the computer. My best friends big brother doesnt have any friends to go out with because he spends all of his time on he computer. I think it is a very bad habit for him to get isolated from the real life. Think of the days when there were no computers and no modern means of transport. Human life was highly restricted due to the unavailability of technological applications. Daily life involved a lot of physical activity. Life of the common man was not as luxurious as that of modern times, but he was more active. Exercise was integrated into routine physical activities. It was contrary to the sedentary lifestyle of today, which leaves no time for exercise and fills days with inactivity and laze. Today we dont want to, and thanks to technology, dont even need to, walk, move around or exert physically to get things done. We have the world is at our fingertips. We think of technology as a boon to society. I am afraid; its not completely a boon. The Internet has bred many unethical practices like hacking, spamming and phishing. Internet crime is on the rise. The Internet, being an open platform lacks regulation. There is no regulation on the content displayed on websites. Internet gambling has become an addiction for many students. Overexposure to the Internet has taken its toll. In this virtual world, you can be who you are not, you can be virtually living even after you die. Isnt this weird? Children are spending all their time playing online and less or almost no time playing on the ground. Youngsters are spending most of their time social networking, missing on the joys of real social life. Moreover, we have become excessively dependent on technology. Is so much of dependency good? Is it right to rely on machines to such an extent? Is it right to depend on computers rather than relying on human intellect? Where is the digital divide going to take us? How is our tomorrow going to be? Machines replacing human beings does not portray a rosy picture, does it? It can lead to serious issues like unemployment and crime. An excessive use of machines in every field can result in an nder-utilization of human brains. Over time, we may even lose our intellectual abilities. You know of the declining mathematical abilities in students due to use of calculators since school, dont you? In conclusion, as technology is getting better people are trying to make their work easy and fast. From this we become lazy, weak and ill. Personal Management Skills Analysis The term personal skill put forwarded to me something more than the active of certain characteristic for example communication, taking responsibility, being competent of working with others, decision making, negotiating and problem solving, because some others point of view is personal skill are related to a persons natural abilities Sally Dench (1997). The Life of Elvis Presley Elvis Aaron Presley, a actor and musician was born on January 8, 1935, in Tupelo, Mississippi. From a very undistinguished beginning, Elvis Presley grew up to become one of the biggest names in music history. Even though some did not like the influence of Elvis Presley, Elvis impacted the music world in ways that is still reflected today. Raised by working-class, loving parents, Presleys family had very small spending money. Elvis Presleys family moved from location to location frequently. Elvis had a high respect towards his parents, especially his mother, Gladys, who raised Presley to have a strong faith, and trust in God. Presley attended the church, Assembly of God Church with his parents. Where gospel music became an important influence towards him which helped his career. In 1946, Elvis Presley received his first guitar as a present from his mother on his 11th birthday. A few years later at Humes High School in Memphis, Elvis had his first taste of musical fame when he won the school talent show. After graduating high school in 1953, Presley worked a numerous amount of jobs while living out his musical dream. He created his first demo record at Sun Studio the same year, and soon after that success, Sam Phillips, the record label owner, decided to take the young growing musician under his wing. Presley soon began recording and touring, trying to catch his first big break through. Presleys first single in 1954 was Thats All Right. In 1955, Presley began to earn a following with fans being very drawn to his provocative dancing style, good looks, and unusual musical style. Thae same year, Elvis became signed with RCA Records, a deal worked out by his new manager, Colonel Tom Parker. Elvis Presley was beginning to do big things like, scoring his first number. 1 single called Heartbreak Hotel, as well as his first number 1 album. In 1956 Elvis then signed a movie contract with Paramount Pictures. Besides the shock of Presleys sexy dance moves caused, he also became a very popular guest on a number of television, and a variety shows. Soon, Presley was everywhere, on the radio, television and the silver screen, working as a musician and actor. His first film, Love Me Tender (1956), was a box office hit. Presley continued acting and recording music s such films as Blue Hawaii (1961),Viva Las Vegas (1964), and Girls! Girls! Girls! (1962). Though his many films they were often a miss or a big hit with both the audiences and the critics, they brought in a vast amount of money and the sou ndtracks mostly sold well. By the late 1960s, however, the famous musician and actor appeared to be losing his huge box office appeal. In 1968 Elvis proving he was still the King of Rock n Roll, cut his first TV feature. This was mostly referred to as the 68 Comeback.. Elvis amazed audiences with his performances, which brought to view his talents as a guitarist ,and also a singer. Around the same time, Elvis Presleys own personal life also seemed to be prospering. Elvis and Priscilla had their wedding in 1967 and had a sweet daughter named, Lisa Marie, the following year. Unfortunately, this unsprung time would not last. In the early 1970s, Elvis Presleys marriage was falling apart. Then in 1973 the broken couple divorced, and Priscilla received all custody of Lisa Marie. Presley was also overtaking other personal problems, including an amplifying addiction to prescription drugs; unfortunately the once very skinny rock star was battling a weight problem, and his cancerous lifestyle quickly caught up with him that fall, when he was sadly put in the hospital for drug abuse related health issues. Despite his personal issues, Elvis Presley remained a popular attraction on tour and in Las Vegas. On June 1977, in Indianapolis, Indiana Presley performed at his last performance. After the concert, Presley returned home to Graceland, his memphis mansion, to prepare for another tour. Elvis Presley died of heart failure, at the age of 42 sometime in the morning of August 16, 1977. They later learned that Presleys death was related to his abuse of prescription drug use. Presley was buried on the Graceland property, near the gravesites of his father Vernon, grandmother Minnie Mae Hood Presley and mother Gladys. Throughout his very successful career, Presley helped rock n roll music in America grow to be popular. Presley also won three Grammy Awards for his wonderful gospel recordings. A huge musical atmosphere, Presley had 18 number 1 singles, including Suspicious Minds, Good Luck Charm and Dont Be Cruel, he also received many gold and platinum albums. Elvis was alone one of the first musicians to inaugurate into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame (1986). Elvis has been appreciated for his addition in several musical genres, gospel, country and, most notably rock. Presley was posthumously inducted into the Country Music Hall of Fame in 1998 then, three years later, he was post-mortem selected into the Gospel Music Associations Gospel Music Hall of Fame. Presley has continued to be one of the worlds most popular music icons since his death. Presleys home, Graceland, in Memphis is open to the public, especially around Presleys the anniversary of his death, and his birthday, and numerous fans from around the world also visit the legendary residence annually. You should see this from our point-of-view. Its amazing, Priscilla Presley said during the event, according to the Washington Post. The candles are lit. Its truly a sight to behold This is something that Elvis would never, ever have believed could have taken place here. Even after his death, the Elvis legacy and influence continues to grow. In Tulkarem, troops arrested four Palestinians whom they accused of plotting a suicide bomb attack targeting today's Israel Independence Day celebrations. Officials offered no details. Tanks also rolled into three Palestinian suburbs of Jerusalem, with troops declaring a curfew and forcing thousands of residents to remain in their homes while searches were conducted for militants and suspected terrorists. The military confirmed the action, describing it as part of a high security alert surrounding the celebration of the Jewish state's 54th year. Palestinians called the latest raids a sign of arrogance. "These incursions are taking place even as Secretary Powell is in the country seeking solutions," said Ahmed Qureia, speaker of the Palestinian Parliament. "There must be an end to these incursions and a complete withdrawal from Palestinian villages and cities before there can be discussions of peace." The Israeli military, meanwhile, called its massive military campaign in the West Bank a success despite international condemnation of its aggressive charge into Palestinian-ruled territories, which has devastated several cities as well as the Jenin refugee camp. "The terrorist infrastructure has been dealt a severe blow," said Maj. Gen. Aharon Zeevi, director of military intelligence, describing Monday's capture of Arafat lieutenant Marwan Barghouti in the West Bank city of Ramallah as a major coup. "They can still make terror. Managers require specific experience and qualification, to make any important decisions and lead their teams to accomplish a goal. Management are classified into four levels, they are top managers, middle managers, first-line managers and non-managerial employees respectively. (Oxford, 2009; Joss,2001) Functions of management: There is a cycle of four functions of management before achieving the stated mission, they are planning, organizing, leading as well as controlling. Planning is one of the functions that preparing and evaluating what and how they can improve to do even better. They can plan for the desired achievement or integrate their current structure. Organizing is a way to utilize resources and guide the manpower in a specific way, since investment and employees are very crucial for successful organizations. Leading is the best way to influence and coordinate the workers, as the managers ‘’motivate† their ‘’ left-right hands†. Motivation means the managers inspire and persuade them to do their best in a happy way. Controlling is the final step amongst four functions. The managers monitor the current productivity and correct the mistakes or ways they perform. (Tripathi and Reddy, 2008) Q2: According to Mintzberg (1990), the managers are grouped into ten roles by three main categories. They are Interpersonal roles, Information roles and decisional roles. Because he thinks it would be the best way leading them to work in a delighted environment is a business, solving the obstacles would not be the only situation. (Branson,2012) For the conceptual skills, he has unique business sense of sustaining and integrating his business. For instant, before he established Virgin Atlantic, he was doing the business of Virgin Music successfully. A lawyer persuaded Richard to invest in airlines; he was taking risks of promising, as he has no experience. However, he analyzed every risk, strategies and possibility of earning money after making up his mind; he even performed the function of organizing that thinking of the year plan and finding out the reasons why the competitors offered the market prices that low. However, no matter what my job position is, the degree of owning these skills is not the same. If I need to rank three of them, interpersonal skills would have the strongest degree. I have communication skills and leading function. As I have to deliver the responsibility to other committees and negotiate with suppliers to reduce our costs; therefore, my communication skills have been greatly improved by being figurehead and negotiator. Besides, I need to help keeping a good relationship with the external world. Additionally, I have the function of organizing and the skills and roles of decision-making as well. Being the leader in a team, I have to allocate works to my teammates; as a result, I need to organize all the plans before delivering to anyone. My conceptual skills should be enhanced, such as predict the future economy situation accurately or invest any properties in a smart way, as integrating our business is the most significant part of upholding current and achieving goals. I would like to be the top manager in next five years or more, who will own at least few shops. Knowing how to calculate the expected return rate and risk would be the first step. Therefore, I would like to learn how I could buy any properties without using my own money, but using the earned profits to invest and earn new profits. It seems my thoughts can be easily accomplished in words, but different skills are involved. Therefore, I should start understanding the bankers’ thought and how is the banking systems working, and then I could negotiate with them fluently. Because loans from the bank may be the ‘’helping hands† of my first business. However, my technical skills are not good enough. Lacking of the knowledge of advanced technology and particular software, my technical skills should be enriched as well. Although technical skills are very crucial to some managers, I will not put a lot of effort on learning them. Because first-line manager can be hired for monitoring the daily processing systems; yet, I should learn how to use software to read the financial statement and make proper decision for expanding my business. Additionally, I should briefly know the transactions processing as well, to prevent the employees from making their own interests. Last but not least, employees are the assets of my company; I should learn how to use the best resources and people with the lowest costs to boost the productivity and achieve my goals. In conclusion, management is very crucial to an organization. As people cannot entirely perform all the functions, roles and skills in a specific position, managers are required to shoulder their responsibility continuously to help achieving the defined mission. Popular culture can be seenas a tool for maintaining status quo, discuss this point of view

Marxist school of thought argues that society is structured by and is divided into classes with the ruling one being at the top of the hierarchy. No matter which class takes that social power (hegemony) and becomes the bourgeoisie of its time, there is always a need to maintain it, thus controlling the proletariat by any means at hand. In this essay I will discuss how popular culture is used to achieve this goal according to the Marxist point of view. In the modern times culture and classes are mostly confined within individual states, although interchangeable cultural values and process of globalisation might be developing in our society, they are not yet matured enough to challenge the key capitalist ideology. The state in opinion of such Marxist as Louis Althusser is the kind of governmental formation that arises with capitalism; a state (term ‘nation' can also be applicable in this case) is determined by the capitalist mode of production and formed to protect its interests. It is historically true (whether you are a Marxist or not) that the idea of nations as discrete units is coterminous with capitalism. He sees such political ideologies as democracy for example, as providers of an illusion that all people are equal, and have equal power (and hence masks relations of economic exploitation). ‘Culture is a constant succession of social practices: it is therefore inherently political' (John Fiske) Althusser stated in his works that there are two main ways in which the elite can manipulate lower classes; Ideological State Apparatuses is one of such mechanisms. These are institutions, which generate ideologies, which we as individuals (and groups) then internalize, and act in accordance with. Examples include schools, religions, the family, legal systems, politics, arts, sports and media. As we will see later, popular culture can be used in conjunction with these ISAs. Since the end of 19th century television started to play a major role in our lives. It generates values, ideas and messages that we often do not question thoroughly enough to understand their indented meanings. Thus, arguably it is the tool social elite uses to controls us. Due to the fact that television is often blended into the term popular culture or is defined as significant element of popular culture; I shall base my discussion around its example. According to such theorists as John Fiske and Wiesengrund Adorno mass media promote low cultural concepts (to which all this of popularity are assigned according to elitist point of view) that are meant to keep the members of the lower society classes passive or even narcotized to fuel the capitalist machine. A good example would be a BBC news report that is considered to be trustworthy source of information. Every day before report goes on air its content is carefully edited to fit in with the current government agendas and social norms. Even though issues raised may concern a variety of professional debates within the society, they are simplified and implemented in the standardized language to be easily understood, hence dummed down to the level of the lowest common denominator that is proletariat. Amongst such concepts is commodity culture which links well with the culture industry. First endorses the view that people in modern society are nothing more than a set of branded goods and are easily manipulated. This theory connotes that anything could be purchased in the capitalist society for a certain amount of money that serve as ultimate lever of the classes. John Fiske goes on to expand this idea to suggest that even loyalty, love and friendship values can be corrupted by this type of popular culture. Supporting these statements is a difficult task; however, let us look at some common to all of us things. Non-compulsory military service could suggest purchasable loyalty; it offers good wages and high quality training in exchange for your life (extreme and blunt example yet makes a point). Commodity culture in its turn, as stated by Adorno, keeps us passively satisfied and politically disinterested. It provides us with false needs to take care of and a set of fetishistic desires, which invade our lives. All of this is said to exhaust our economic potential to the point we loose our upward mobility and become an inactive part of the society that poses no threat to the ruling elite's hegemony. Take reality TV shows and property market. Do we really need to know that some of our fellow humans can't sing? Or do we need to keep buying and selling properties until we have large mortgages, high levels of stress and no real power? Yet most of the people master the art of making do that is popular culture values. Finally French sociologist Pierre Bourdieu divided capital into cultural and financial parts. He reasoned that similar to variable access to money and thus power by different classes and social groups, there is a variable possession of cultural and symbolic power. Hence by embracing popular culture we lower our cultural capital that affects our status and meaning within the modern society. Marxist view of the society is quite dated now, yet it still provides alarmingly appropriate to modern day life ideas. Nonetheless, it is important to understand that in its extreme and pure form Marxist view can only lead to wild conspiracy theories and delusional arguments. In my opinion Marxism should be used in conjunction and contrast with its rival theories in order to reach realistic conclusions.

Although panic disorder may occur without agoraphobia, the latter is generally linked to the former due to the extreme fear of the patients for embarrassment as he or she experiences panic attack in public places. In this case, panic disorder patients avoid populated social settings like grocery, church, and theaters. They prefer safe places like home and to be with safe people like parents in order to avoid embarrassment during a panic attack. This avoidance is further aggravated by the anticipatory anxiety as the patient imagines what possibly might happen when he or she experiences panic attack in public places. The tendency for the disparity in the diagnosis of panic disorder is blamed with its comorbidity with other psychiatric disorders. This is highly observed among individuals with substance-abuse history, especially those who have taken benzodiapine in self-medication as well as those who consume alcoholic drinks heavily. As well, around 75% of patients had major depression while experiencing panic disorder (Hirschfeld, 1996). On the other hand, the non-specificity of the patient’s conditions, laboratory tests and physical examination are employed to rule out the complication symptoms brought by other medical disorders like hypoglycemia, pheochromocytoma, and thyrotoxicosis. Lincoln’s first act as president was to call up 75,000 soldiers to stop the Southern revolt. Refusing to send troops that would fight their southern neighbors, claiming Lincoln has exceeded his constitutional authority; Tennessee, Arkansas and Virginia seceded as well joini ng the Confederate States of America. Lincoln did not know much about military matters so he educated himself on the subject by reading books on military history. He had no formal education but was a learned man and became a lawyer by reading books so this was an effective method for him. Lincoln sent a supply ship to Fort Sumter located in South Carolina to fortify Union troops stationed in what Southerners now considered a different country, their own. The Civil War officially began when southern troops fired on the ship and fort. Two months later, in an effort to quickly end the war, Lincoln ordered the army to capture Richmond, Virginia, the Confederate capital but the Union was badly defeated on their way in the small town of Manassas, Virginia. Lincoln then realized the war would be protracted so signed a bill into law that called for the enlistment of half a million more troops for a three year period. Lincoln proved to be a capable military tactician and, for the most part, chose effective field commanders. Gener al George McClellan, commander of the biggest Union army, was a favorite of the troops but not Lincoln who was frustrated with McClellan’s unwillingness to advance against the Confederate army. Lincoln relieved McClellan of his command when he did not pursue the retreating Confederates following the 1862 Union victory at Antietam. (â€Å"Abraham,† 2012). Lincoln created a great deal of controversy when he suspended the right of habeas corpus (due process of law) in 1861 when Congress was not in session. He had already ended civil law in some areas but regarded these drastic, many correctly called unconstitutional, measures as necessary steps in the war effort. Lincoln revealed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863 following the Battle of Antietam which freed the slaves but Southern states ignored it at the time.
